SINGAPORE-The Hong Kong organizer behind the Kaws: Holiday Singapore exhibition at The Float @ Marina Bay on Tuesday (December 14) filed a defamation lawsuit against Ryan Su and Adrian Chan, founders of the Shui On Foundation (TRF).
ARR said in a press statement that the defamation lawsuit was against various exhibition-related statements and publications issued by local non-profit organizations against AllRightsReserved (ARR).
The exhibition was originally scheduled to be held in Singapore from November 14 to 21 and open to the public.
However, just before the start of the private preview by media influencers on November 13, TRF obtained a temporary injunction to stop the activity.
While suspending activities, the order also requires the cessation of merchandise sales, activity promotion and advertising.
The exhibition reopened on the afternoon of November 16 two days after the original opening, when the court lifted the ban.
After the lifting, the court further ordered an investigation of the damage suffered by ARR due to the temporary injunction.
TRF and ARR have been negotiating to bring the exhibition to Singapore in 2019, although the negotiations eventually broke down. Yahoo News Singapore has learned that TRF's ongoing lawsuit against ARR involves information allegedly shared by the two parties during discussions (including on-site visits) at the 2019 exhibition.
Kaws: Holiday Singapore showcases 42 million inflatable artworks by American artist Kaws — his real name is Brian Donnelly — and is based on his iconic companion role. Singapore is the seventh location of the exhibition's world tour that began in Seoul in 2018.
